PHOENIX - Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne is criticizing President Barack Obama's administration for a court action he says would push for the ability of undocumented immigrants to vote.

In the Gonzalez v State case, a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit ruled that Arizona could not require persons registering to vote to provide proof of citizenship.

According to a news release from the Attorney General's office, late Friday afternoon the Obama Administration filed an eleventh-hour amicus brief arguing that Arizona should not be able to request information to check if applicants wanting to vote are citizens.

Horne said in the news release that the filing would allow "illegal aliens to register to vote."

"This is contrary to the interests of the people of the United States," he added.

Horne will argue at a review of the case before an eleven-judge panel on June 21, according to his office.
