    U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: October 16 – October 22

    (10/24/2008)Border Patrol agents seized over 587 pounds of marijuana valued at $468,900. Agents arrested 10 criminal aliens and 8 gang members. There were 8 rocking incidents.

    This overview is compiled from incidents reported to the Office of Border Patrol and is not intended to reflect all Border Patrol enforcement actions. Most arrests and seizures fail to meet the requirements for mandatory reporting to the Office of Border Patrol.

    Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Carrizo Springs, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was previously deported from the United States as an aggravated felon. During processing the subject was identified as a member of the Almighty Latin Kings and Queens Nation gang.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents responded to a vehicle roll-over accident near the Ysleta, Texas traffic checkpoint. Agents encountered an overturned tanker truck with two occupants inside. Agents believed the truck was carrying petroleum, which was spilling out on the ground, and immediately extricated the occupants. Agents rendered first aid to the occupants and provided traffic control at the scene. Local law enforcement authorities and hazardous material specialists responded and assumed responsibility for the scene.

    Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC), seized 90 pounds of marijuana valued at $72,400, and a 1990 Nissan Stanza after a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle
    at the Falfurrias, Texas checkpoint. A search of the vehicle revealed two bundles of marijuana in the trunk.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and was a registered sex offender in Urbana, Illinois.

    Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested the driver in an alien smuggling case near Uvalde, Texas who admitted to being a member of the Latin Kings gang.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued three illegal aliens from a canal near El Paso, Texas. Agents discovered that one of the aliens was wanted in Johnson County, Kansas for felony sexual exploitation of a child.

    Rio Grande Valley – Border Patrol agents arrested five illegal aliens who claimed they were robbed while walking through the brush in the United States near Falfurrias, Texas. The illegal aliens also stated that the bandits wanted the telephone numbers of family members in order to demand money for the release of the illegal aliens. One of the female illegal aliens claimed that she was sexually assaulted.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a group of 55 illegal aliens near Douglas, Arizona after following footprints that originated approximately 26 miles east of the Douglas Port of Entry.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near the Bridge of the Americas in El Paso, Texas. During processing, agents discovered that the illegal alien is a member of the Paisanos gang. Records checks also revealed the subject had been convicted of possession of a controlled substance in Illinois, and had previously been removed from the United States.

    El Paso Sector – A Border Patrol agent near the Ysleta, Texas traffic checkpoint found a lost United States Citizen (USC) child several miles from her elementary school in El Paso, Texas. The agent turned the young lady over to local authorities who safely returned her to her mother.

    Tucson Sector –Border Patrol agents arrested a USC, seized 185 pounds of marijuana valued at $148,112, and also seized a .45 caliber handgun near Sonoita, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the West Side Rubidoux gang.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, and seized $10,013.91 in U.S. currency.

    Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Laredo, Texas. Record checks revealed that the subject was previously removed from the United States and that he is a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Amado, Arizona. Records checks revealed that the subject was previously removed from the United States after being convicted of sexual assault with a minor in Gunnison, Colorado.

    Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC for smuggling three illegal aliens near Uvalde, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted that he is an active member of the Latin Kings gang.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sasabe, Arizona. Records checks revealed that the subject is a registered sex offender and has a conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Sells, Arizona. Records checks revealed that the subject is a registered sex offender and has a conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien near Arivaca, Arizona. Agents were notified that a group of hunters had encountered the illegal alien and took him to a local medical facility for treatment of a gunshot wound to the foot. The subject claimed that he and six others were transporting marijuana into the United States when several unidentified subjects began shooting at them, striking him in the left foot. The illegal alien claimed that during the attack, the group dropped the marijuana bundles and ran in different directions.

    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Brownsville, Texas. During questioning, the subject claimed to be a Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang member, and records checks revealed he was previously removed from the United States as an aggravated felon.

    Rio Grande Valley Sector – While attempting to approach a vehicle parked along the Rio Grande River near Escobares, Texas, Border Patrol agents heard several shots coming from the direction of the vehicle. Twelve to fifteen subjects were observed unloading a van when the shots were fired. The subjects then fled into Mexico, leaving behind the van and its contents. Agents seized 147 pounds of marijuana valued at $117,000, and the van.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed that the subject was previously arrested in Jefferson County, Colorado for Enticement of a Child, Internet Luring of a Child, and Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested three illegal aliens from Mexico near Columbus, New Mexico. One subject claimed he was robbed of approximately $100 (Mexican) by three unidentified bandits in Mexico who were armed with various weapons. All three illegal aliens stated that they were thrown to the ground, and one was struck with a wooden club.

    Rio Grande Valley – Border Patrol arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Hidalgo, Texas. The subject was stopped by local law enforcement for a traffic violation, and records checks revealed he was illegally in the United States as well as being a member of the 18th Street gang.

    San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested three illegal aliens who claimed they were robbed by bandits inside the United States near Otay Mesa, California. The subjects reported that three unidentified bandits, one of whom was armed with a handgun, robbed them of a total of $20. One of the subjects claimed that the armed bandit held the gun to his head during the robbery.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and was a convicted sex offender.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States. The illegal alien has a previous conviction for vehicular manslaughter and is a registered sex offender in Sacramento, California.
