    Chemung: CVS project halted

Officials issue day-long "stop work" order after arrest of seven undocumented immigrants

CHEMUNG — The feverish pace of construction at the 751,000 square-foot CVS distribution facility in the Town of Chemung came to a screeching halt on Friday following the arrest of seven Mexican nationals on illegal immigration charges.

As a result of the arrests, which took place Thursday evening, county and local officials issued a day-long stop work order to Gray Construction, the Kentucky-based general contractor, that left the usually bustling site silent for the duration of the day on Friday.

Following talks with Grey Construction Friday afternoon, officials agreed to rescind the stop work order and allow all of the approximately 160 construction workers to return Saturday morning.

At a press conference held Friday morning, Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli and Sheriff Christopher Moss stated that Thursday’s arrests were the culmination of three months of investigations into the possibility of undocumented employees at the work site, following a series of tips they began receiving in August.

After a number of checks over the past few weeks turned up nothing, they said, a lead followed by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday finally paid off.

“At approximately 4:45 p.m. (Thursday), we initiated two traffic stops on state Route 17 in the Town of Chemung after the individuals had left the CVS worksite,â€

More police and sheriff departments, and ICE too, should be investigating reported claims of illegal alien hiring. It does take time, but Americans need jobs that too many employers are filling with illegal alien labor. Our economy needs our citizens to be employed.

Construction subcontractors are one of the main employers of illegals in this country. They claim they don't know they're hiring illegals because most of the illegals have fake social security numbers. This industry should be more aggressively targeted by ICE,as illegals running construction crews are usually paid very well. These are jobs Americans surely would do.

I am proud of Chemung. They have done what I always do--send me a crew of non-English speaking workers, consider yourself immediately fired and off my property.

hattiecat, it is alleged that the big Volkswagen plant being built in Chattanooga, TN has the situation occurring that you outline above. Where are Americans standing up for their fellow citizens to have those jobs? Where are the voices of local city and county officials? What about state reps? Where is ICE and the State of Tennessee to investigate if this is the case? Foreign labor brought in by contractors is not jobs for local citizenry, and everyone pleads ignorance, or they just plain lie.

Let's accommodate identity theft, forged documents, theft of American jobs.

    Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

What do you want to bet that those illegal workers WILL NOT be deported. Under the new DHS rules, ICE is only going to deport those who have committed a violent crime. These guys will just move on to take other American jobs.
