U.S. BORDER PATROL Weekly Blotter: (02/09/2011)

Border Patrol agents seized over 14,455 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested four criminal aliens and eight gang members. There were eight rocking incidents.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, both subjects admitted to being members of the Los Paisanos gang. Records checks revealed both subjects had extensive criminal histories and had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico along the Rio Grande River near Zapata, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Zetas drug trafficking organization.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,815 pounds of marijuana and recovered a stolen Dodge pickup truck near Charco, Arizona. Agents discovered the vehicle abandoned and a search revealed the marijuana concealed inside.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,128 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet pickup truck near Hebbronville, Texas. The truck was found abandoned in the brush and the marijuana was discovered inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 18.8 grams of cocaine, 555 pounds of marijuana, a .40 caliber handgun, and arrested nine illegal aliens near Why, Arizona. Agents encountered the group with assistance from a Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine air asset. The marijuana and handgun were found in the area where the aliens were encountered.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,752 pounds of marijuana and a stolen Dodge pick-up truck near Ajo, Arizona. Agents conducting sign cutting operations located the vehicle abandoned and a search revealed the marijuana in the bed and cab of the truck. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Phoenix, Arizona.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 24 pounds of marijuana, a Dodge pickup truck, a loaded .38 caliber handgun, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Tombstone, Arizona. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed the marijuana hidden inside the vehicle and the handgun was discovered in the glove compartment. Records checks indicated the weapon had been reported stolen.

Detroit Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Somalia in Detroit, Michigan. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest for 2nd degree felony assault for inflicting bodily harm with a knife issued in the state of Minnesota. The subject had also been previously ordered removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,645 pounds of marijuana and a Ford Excursion near Gu Vo, Arizona. Agents observed the vehicle traveling without headlights and responded to investigate. Agents encountered the vehicle abandoned and discovered the marijuana inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lukeville, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior felony conviction for rape of a child in the state of Washington and had been previously removed from the Unites States.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Blythe, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual intercourse with a minor and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 45 pounds of marijuana, a Honda Civic, and arrested a USC near Calexico, California. Agents responded to an ultralight aircraft (ULA) incursion and encountered the subject at the suspected drop zone. The marijuana was found in the subject’s vehicle.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 101 pounds of marijuana, a Dodge truck, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint in Alamogordo, New Mexico. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Sureño 13 gang.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,325 pounds of marijuana and a Ford truck near Fronton, Texas. Agents observed the truck being loaded with suspected contraband and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop when the driver failed to yield. Agents lost contact with the vehicle and later encountered the conveyance at an abandoned residence. The marijuana was discovered inside the abandoned vehicle.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 230 pounds of marijuana after receiving information regarding a ULA incursion near Yuma, Arizona. Agents made visual contact with the aircraft and observed bundles of suspected contraband being dropped to the ground. The marijuana and a steel basket were recovered from the drop zone. The ULA was observed returning to Mexico.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador in Brownsville, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 331 pounds of marijuana near Calexico, California. A ULA was detected entering U.S. airspace and agents responded to the suspected drop zone. At the drop zone, agents recovered the marijuana, a welded iron basket and a signaling device. The ULA was observed returning to Mexican airspace.


Grand Forks Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Grand Forks, North Dakota. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the MS-13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,318 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Hebbronville, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the vehicle and a subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Brownsville, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was a member of the MS-13 gang and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – A Border Patrol agent was assaulted by an unidentified subject near Calexico, California. The unidentified subject in Mexico assaulted the agent by throwing a piece of concrete which struck the agent in the face. At the time of the attack, the agent was placing a subject, who was in his custody, into his Border Patrol vehicle. The agent deployed his pepperball launching system and the attacker retreated further into Mexico.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,682 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Marfa, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 632 pounds of marijuana and a Ford pickup truck near Hidalgo, Texas. During the seizure, an agent was assaulted by an unidentified subject throwing rocks.
