Fugitive Wanted in California for Sexual Assault

SWEETGRASS, Mont., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the port of entry here apprehended a Mexican national after being refused entry into Canada at the adjacent Canadian port of Coutts on Tuesday.

Israel Rosales-Garcia, 33, presented fraudulent identity documentation to CBP officers upon arrival, but by using the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), the officers were able to ascertain his true identity. Rosales-Garcia is currently wanted by the San Mateo Sheriff's office in California on sexual assault charges (kidnapping a child under the age of 14, lewd/lascivious with a child under 14 and intercourse with a 16 year old). The bond on the sexual assault charges is $200,000. He has a previous conviction for possession, manufacture and selling of dangerous weapons.

Rosales-Garcia was traveling with another Mexican national with a prior criminal record, leading to their refused entry into Canada by Canada Border Services Agency. The two stated they were traveling from Las Vegas to Indianapolis and had gotten lost. Both admitted to CBP officers that they had been living and working in the U.S. for at least 10 years without legal authorization.

CBP officers confirmed the outstanding warrant for Rosales-Garcia with California law enforcement authorities and turned him over to the Toole County Sheriff's office for extradition.
