McCain declines invitation to discuss immigration with hard-line GOP candidate

Posted By: Carolyn Hileman - The Voice* on March 19, 2008

A GOP House candidate running on an anti-illegal immigration platform scolded presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for turning down an invitation to visit his city and discuss immigration.

Hazleton, Pa., Mayor Lou Barletta, a Republican running for Rep. Paul Kanjorski’s (D-Pa.) seat, expressed deep disappointment with McCain’s decision to decline the request, which was also offered to Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

“While I commend Sen. McCain for being the first to respond to my invitation, I am very troubled by his decision to decline my offer,â€

While the ALIPAC Forum has a large number of people who read it the largest organization in terms of people who act through it in the arena of immigration control is NumbersUSA.

NumbersUSA has only 550,000 people who fax regularly on their service. At 60,000 NumbersUSA had an effect but to have a determing effect there needs to be an even larger group of members.

What we need to do is think of actions that the more motivated can do that will get NumbersUSA in the news even if it is a handful of people.

A banner anging on the wall of the Kennedy Compound for instance is photogenic and might make the national news.

Perhaps there is some location associated with McCain that could make for the same sort of publicity stunt.

A greater degree of coverage with the prospect of a larger group of activists is what would be most likely to bring McCain to the table.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Good point Richard, the one thing that McCain would like to distance himself from right now and til election time would be the illegal immigration debate.

Perhaps calling or emailing some of the talkies could help to keep the fire hot as well? Pointing out that McCain is skirting the issue could be the theme.

OF COURSE HE DID. McCAIN DOESNT WANT TO BE BACKED INTO A WALL AND HAVE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS.

McCain has dodged every single question on illegal immigration by a one-line statement "My friends, I get it". WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?
RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends
