Is radio interference from Mexico causing delays in emergency response times?

The City of El Paso is reporting an increase of dead spots around the city and some say this increase is strangely timed with the arrival of Mexican military in Juarez.

When it comes to radio traffic following rules can be extremely important.

The Director of Information Technology, for the City of El Paso, Gary Gordier says over the past few months, his department has dealt with an unusual amount radio interference coming from Mexico.

" We were noticing an increase in the number of dead spots that officers were finding as they were out in patrol and they were having trouble communicating and were sometimes picking up voices on the other side," Gordier said.

Gordier and his department say a great deal of the interference has come from cell-phone towers across the border.

"As long as there is increased radio traffic, regardless of the reason behind it, whether it's because of increased business or whatever, we will continue to see issues of interference," Gordier said.
