Republicans Aiming to Take Away Voting Rights in 36 States

More evidence that Republicans are determined to grab as much power as they can at the expense of everyone but the rich. Not satisfied with attacking the rights of workers, Republicans in 36 states are going after the most sacred American right-the right to vote. The We Party reports that through a myriad of proposals, they are trying to suppress the votes of traditionally Democratic voters, including minorities, the poor, people who live in rural areas, seniors and students.

Last week, the Wisconsin Senate added another chapter to its anti-democratic record by passing a voter ID bill that the non-partisan state Legislative Fiscal Bureau says would disenfranchise 20 percent of the state’s voters, especially in rural areas. The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University estimates that 11 percent of voters nationwide do not have official IDs that would pass muster for these new and proposed state laws.

Here are examples of similar legislation being enacted or considered in other states. For more information, click here:

In South Carolina, Gov. Nikki Haley signed into law a voter ID bill that would take away the right to vote for 178,000 people, including minorities, and eliminate student IDs as a valid form of voter identification.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott last week signed sweeping election reforms into law, changes the Orlando Sentinel says “dramatically overhauls state voting laws by changing longstanding procedures that allow a person to change his or her registration or name at the polling place, puts in new requirements for third-party voter registration groups and shortens the number of days available for early voting.â€

    This

This accusation makes no sense at all. ANY American citizen or legal resident can go out and get a photo ID very easily. Im sure the Democrats who are whining will be very eager to help them as well. Oh, but the Dems will lose so many of their fraudulant voters...ah Now I understand, lol /sarcasm off

Voter fraud must be curtailed and this is how you do it...

I have allegeries so I went to the store to buy Sudafed. The druggist told me I would have to produce a photo i.d. I told him that his request was racist and discriminatory and denied Sudafed to the poor and elderly. He said "so, do you want the Sudafed or not?"

I'm not buying into the argument that a photo i.d. is hard to get. In Wisconsin the elderly and those living in nursing homes are exempt and the i.d. is free if you can't afford it.

Ironically, these same people have no problems producing identification when they pick up their welfare checks or section 8 vouchers. I guess they’re upset because a matricular consular card is no longer going to cut it!

I have yet to meet an American citizen who didn't have some form of government issued identification. Besides, if voting is important enough to you, then you will not mind acquiring and producing a government issued identification, in order to help preserve the integrity and sanctity of the democratic process.

And why does there always seem to be some hispanic advocacy group upset when laws are passed to protect American citizens?
