US Searches for Missing Indian Soldiers
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) -- U.S. authorities are searching for two soldiers from India who disappeared from Camp Pendleton during a military training exercise.
Defense Department officials said Friday that the soldiers have been missing since March 20, the final day of a 30-day training exercise with the Pendleton-based 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
A Camp Pendleton spokesman says the rest of the 120 Indian soldiers participating in the exercise returned home last weekend.
The State Department said it is working with local law enforcement agencies to find the soldiers. An Indian consular official in San Francisco confirms that his government asked U.S. authorities for help.

I don't fully understand this article, it says soldiers not Marines and Marines would not be called that! Are these soldiers from India who fled?

Search on for missing Indian soldiers
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) -- Officials are searching for two soldiers from India who disappeared from a sprawling Marine base in Southern California, the government said Friday.
The unidentified soldiers have been missing since March 20, the final day of a 30-day training exercise with the Camp Pendleton-based 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Defense Department officials said.
The State Department is working with Defense and state and local law enforcers "to provide the Indian government with all the help it needs to locate these individuals," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said in a statement.

How did these two men get out of Camp Pendlton without passes?
According to the article 120 of the soldiers returned to India and an Indian consular official in San Francisco confirms that the Indian government has asked U.S. authorities for help find the two men. So the United States is 'assisting' the Indian government in locating these two AWOL soldiers.
I don't know what type of military traing these two deserters received but I would think, from a national security point, it is critical for the U.S. to find them and deport them."Distrust and caution are the parents of security."
