Man deported 7 times arrested in Escondido

A Mexican citizen who had been deported multiple times was arrested Thursday evening by Escondido police during a routine traffic stop.

A police officer stopped a vehicle that had faulty lighting. The driver did not have identification or a driver’s license. A U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officer who works with Escondido police responded to assist the officer in identifying the driver.

The driver then identified himself as Fernando Marcos Bravo-Sanchez, 28, and said he was a citizen of Mexico, said Escondido police Lt. Chris Wynn.

A records check showed that Bravo-Sanchez had prior convictions for burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle. He had been deported seven times and voluntarily returned to Mexico three times, police said.

Bravo-Sanchez was taken into custody and was booked at the Vista Detention Facility on an immigration hold. He faces a vehicle theft charge from an earlier case, Wynn said.
