I wonder if this is just about protecting the borders. Bush has his little speech about immigration. And that vote is coming up for the end of the month as well. It might be that these lovely individuals who only come here to take jobs that Americans don't want ( such as stealing from the elderly and fencing their possessions; that is a job Americans don't want ) just might riot if they don't get a continuance of the free ride unconditionally...
Of course it would be nice if they are only here to police the borders ( or even sending back illegals who are here )...
