La Raza hears 'code words' from McCain

A California-based immigration reform activist says he isn't surprised that GOP presidential candidate John McCain employed code words meaning amnesty for illegal immigrants when he told a Hispanic rights group that he supports "comprehensive immigration reform."

On Monday the presumptive Republican presidential nominee spoke to the annual convention of the National Council of La Raza in San Diego, telling Hispanic voters how he gained their trust by championing an immigration reform bill that nearly killed his presidential bid. He made it clear that his position has not changed on that issue.

"When my critics said it would political suicide for me to do so, I helped author with Senator Kennedy comprehensive immigration reform," stated McCain, "and I took my lumps for it without complaint. My campaign was written off as a lost cause."

Rick Oltman, national spokesman for Californians for Population Stabilization, says most people know what those words mean.

"There was nothing new in this panderfest," says Oltman. "It was the same kind of talk-around you hear when you talk about allowing people to earn a chance to stay -- or with the code word 'comprehensive immigration reform,' everybody knows that means amnesty."

Oltman says, like Barack Obama, McCain remains fully committed to giving an amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in the United States.

I don't know where a specific list can be found but comprehensive by definition typically means all or everything.

Some other code words and phrases for amnesty and pro-IA policies off the top of my head. Please add to this:

-"pathway to citizenship"

-"earned legalization"

-"bring them out of the shadows"

-"can't deport 12 million undocumented workers"

-"doing the jobs Americans are not doing" (or "will not do")

-"we are a nation of immigrants"

-And Amnesty John McCain's recent addition to the vocabulary: "they are God's children"
