Park Council Votes to Remain Immigrant Sanctuary
posted 8:14 am Tue October 30, 2007 - TAKOMA PARK, Md.

Takoma Park wants to steer away of the examples set by other nearby counties that are cracking down on immigrants.

The town council voted to unanimously to reaffirm the town's status as a "sanctuary city," that does not allow police to enforce federal immigration laws. The vote came two weeks after the council denied the police chief's request for more flexibility in executing immigration warrants only if police come upon deported felons.

Takoma Park has been known as an independent and liberal jurisdiction - even allowing residents who are not U.S. citizens to vote in municipal elections.

Takoma Park, and nearby Langley Park, have been transformed into third-world barrios, so I'm not the least surprised at this article. There are probably more illegals living there than in any other area of metro DC.

As Virginia cracks down on illegal aliens, they are moving en masse to areas in Maryland. Before long, they will have run all of the legal citizens out of those areas.

If they receive any federal funding, I hope it's yanked. This is the least we can do.

Thats because Takoma Park is filled with illegals! It looks like a foreign country. These people are insane and I hope the law comes down on them hard when this debate is all over. Takoma Park used to be such a quaint and desireable place to live. It just makes me sick how all of these beautiful towns are being destroyed by illegal aliens and their supporters.

The more I learn the madder I become.

Defying federal laws, failure to enforce federal laws, the creation of illegal alien sanctuary sites on American soil, and failure to enforce equal protection of the law for all citizens is anarchy, civil disobedience and willful violation of allegiance to the federal government--all the ingredients for a civil war.

Sanctuary city policies defy guidelines from the 9/11 Commission Report, which called on state and local authorities to help federal agencies crack down on illegal immigration.

Sanctuary cities protect illegal aliens through local resolutions, executive orders or city ordinances. City police departments may also issue their own special orders, policies and general orders to the similar effect.

Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength (MOSES) takes credit for lobbying the Detroit City Council to consider providing “sanctuaryâ€
