The U.S. Department of Homeland Security filed lawsuits against an anti-border wall activist and two other Cameron County property owners as part of its efforts to build the fence.

The lawsuits come days after a federal judge in Brownsville sided with the agency allowing them temporary access to 10 other properties in Cameron County.

Federal officials were given authority to access and survey land for six months.

Court records identified the property owners in the new lawsuits as Eloisa G. Tamez, Ruben Quiroz and Celeste Montemayor Rodriguez.

Tamez has been a vocal opponent of the border wall and has been quoted in interviews from publications and television programs from Europe and across the United States.

Tamez, who works as a director for the Unversity of Texas at Brownsville's nursing program, told Action 4 News that her family's land in the rural community of El Calaboz.

The anti-border wall activist said the land has been in family's hands since the days of Spanish rule in Texas.

Lawsuits filed against Quiroz and Rodriguez's show that their properties are along U.S. Military Highway 281 near the communities of Carricitos and Los Indios.
