    Navy ship intercepts drug boat off coast

    A Navy destroyer from San Diego intercepted a drug boat and its cargo Monday during exercises off the Southern California coast.

    The Sampson and its crew recovered about 60 bales of assorted drugs from the ocean after the small boat dumped them overboard, the Navy said in a released statement.

    The destroyer dispatched an inflatable boat and swimmers to retrieve the bales, which were later transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard.

    There was no immediate word on what happened to the drug boat.
