A 49-year-old man killed Sunday in a wreck on U.S. 41 East near the Collier-Dade County border was a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, the agency confirmed Monday.

Andrew C. Corsini of Islamorada was the Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Miami, agency spokeswoman Nicole Navas said in an e-mail.

"We are deeply saddened to lose a member of our ICE family and our thoughts and prayers are with the Corsini family," Navas said in a statement. "Andy was a tremendous value to our agency and dedicated his life to public service. He will be deeply missed amongst his second family here at ICE."

The crash involved the collision of two motorcyclists and a 1996 Jeep SUV on U.S. 41 at mile marker 44.

According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, the westbound Jeep driven by Naples resident Carlos Riol, 77, steered into oncoming traffic and hit Corsini’s motorcycle before crossing onto the road’s south grassy shoulder and overturning.

Riol was taken to Physicians Regional Medical Center-Collier Boulevard with minor injuries, while his passenger Maria Gomez, 73, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital.

After being hit, Corsini’s bike struck another motorcycle being driven by his wife, Islamorada resident Melissa D. Corsini, 44, who suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kendall Regional Hospital in Miami. Kendall Regional spokesman Peter Jude said Melissa Corsini was discharged Sunday.
