The fugitive warrants unit of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has been recognized by Homeland Security’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Unit (ICE) for their assistance in apprehending criminal aliens.

In "Operation Return to Sender," the Miami field office of ICE has expressed appreciation for the support, dedicated service, and commitment to the apprehension of ICE criminal fugitives by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael W. Meade, acting field office director for ICE said, "The hard work and dedication played a key role and enabled our office to locate and apprehend over 51 criminal aliens, most of which were absconders from immigration proceedings."

Sheriff Mike Scott was presented with a plaque. "I am very proud of the efforts and accomplishments of our fugitive warrants unit," He said.

"The work ethic, commitment and courage displayed by these brave men play a large part in helping the agency achieve its ultimate goal of providing a safer community for our residents by aggressively making Lee County an inhospitable place for criminals to reside."
