CBP Officers and U.S. Marshals Take Custody of Fugitive in Arizona(Thursday, March 18, 2010)

San Luis, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers assisted in the international exchange of a fugitive at the San Luis, Ariz., port of entry with Mexican officials and the U.S. Marshals Service.

CBP received information earlier today from the U.S. Marshals Service of a United States citizen fugitive named Edgar Lopez who was being deported by Mexico.

Once the Mexican officials arrived at the port, CBP officers took custody of the fugitive and processed him. Lopez was turned over to the U.S. Marshals at the San Luis Port of Entry. Lopez was wanted on an outstanding warrant for probation violation which originated on drug charges.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
