GOP Leaders Want Carsten to Return Donation From Pro-Amnesty Newspaper

State House District 102 Candidate Linda Carsten solicited and received $5,000 for her campaign from the founders and publishers of La Vision de Georgia -- a newspaper that advocates for illegal immigration. The La Vision newspaper and its founder, Victoria Chacon, are vocal supporters of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Chacon, who by herself donated $2,000 to Carsten's campaign, said in an interview to the Atlanta Journal Constitution that, "Mexicans who make illegal border crossings for job-rich cities like Atlanta, 'have no choice' but to break the law." The remaining portions of La Vision's contribution were made by Chacon's husband and La Vision's office manager.

Carsten's run-off opponent, B.J. Pak -- a former federal prosecutor who has actual experience prosecuting and deporting dangerous illegal immigrants -- is calling on Linda Carsten to immediately return the $5,000.
"I think it is very troubling and hypocritical that Ms. Carsten, a Republican candidate from Gwinnett County would solicit and accept $5,000 from very vocal supporters of illegal immigration, and then use the money to send out false and misleading mailers saying that I am somehow against fighting illegal immigration," Pak said. "She is either completely out of touch, or she just may not care that illegal immigrants are draining our resources and severely burdening our taxpayer funded government services."

The following Gwinnett Republican leaders and elected officials have joined Pak in demanding that Linda Carsten return these funds immediately: State Representative David Casas (R-Dist. 103), State Rep-Elect Josh Clark (R-Dist. 9, State Rep-Elect Buzz Brockway (R-Dist 101), Republican Nominee Brett Harrell (R-Dist 106), and also Butch Conway.

Taking money from people who are activists for illegal immigration is not acceptable to Republican voters, especially when the money is from the liberal Hispanic press who has fought my and my Republican collegues efforts to stop illegal immigration," said Representative David Casas.
