Yavapai County
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ -- The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says some employees of a contractor building a county project have no proof they're legally allowed to work in the U.S.
The county, in a news release Friday, said Prescott Valley police received a call about potential criminal activity at the site, and found people were spending the night there. Prescott Valley referred the case to the county.
The news release says some employees were unable to prove legal U.S. status.
A sheriff's office spokesman could not say how many workers lacked that proof.
The release says the sheriff is investigating possible violations of immigration and other laws, while the county attorney and administrators are investigating possible violations of state employment and contract laws.
