Man pleads no contest in fatal Omaha collision
September 30, 2009 3:25 PM ET
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A 27-year-old man has pleaded no contest to charges stemming from a collision that fatally injured a 4-year-old Omaha girl.
Eleazar Rangel-Ochoa made the pleas Tuesday to a charge of driving under suspension and 1 of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.
He had earlier pleaded not guilty. He faces up to six years in prison.
Police say Rangel-Ochoa ran a red light on May 12 and struck a minivan driven by Jayme Bluhm. Bluhm's daughter Josie was thrown from the van. Josie died the next day.
Bluhm and 2 of her other children were injured.
Rangel-Ochoa's license was suspended for 15 years in January 2003 following his third drunken-driving conviction in Nebraska. He's also suspected of being in the country illegally.
