This is some of the best news I have heard in a LONG time. It was so nice to be part of the "crew" that gave midnight "tours" to a pair of reps from Tancredo and Hayworths office. We took them into Hunter Canyon (where I did my time in the field), and that was drug runner heaven. They saw all the blinking signal lights, up the canyon (mountain top), and heard the spanish chatter on the FRS radios. The chatter that night (verbetim) was "Get that shit down here NOW!", "We can't! where do we go? Their fuking everywhere!" Great things to hear on radio chatter. Now the chatter was in spanish, but we had 2 people fluent in that (not me). The reps did see and hear this, and they saw how NOTHING came down the mountain that night, even though the signal lights were popping for quite a wile. That night, those 2 bailed out about 12:30. It ended up being just JimG and myself and FrankP until morning, with Frank heading out to Naco at about 3 am to do some radio checks, and JimG crashing out in his car about 2:30. It was a DAMN cold nite (mid 30's). However, nothing came down the hill. About once every hour, I would walk out into the road, take a 10 million candle power spot, turn it on, sweep the canyon all the way up to the mnt peak, just to let them know that tonight NO ONE and NO DOPE were coming out this drop point.

And we (MMP) were just dumb citizens. Put some well trained Nat Guard down their, and I am sure they would do even better than we did!!!

We can't let up now. This report gives us the support we need. "Strike while the iron is hot." We need to write every elected official and press this. We also need to address the need for immigration control in non-border states such as North Carolina, Virginia, Nebraska, Iowa, ect.

When that report comes out, I want a copy! I will send to all of my repersentatives here in Alabama with a note "now try and tell me it can't be done!".

Each of those have two pull two weeks each year active duty. Stagger the times of the year for duty and you could probable cover the complete border 365 days a year."

The technical capabilities of our military are absolutely awesome. It doesn't have to 'cost' more to put our men on our border to secure it. It would actually be wonderful experience for these men in the use of all the technology that we've developed.

I have been saying this for a long time myself. If they have 2 weeks REQUIRED, and we have 50 states, then we can easily have 365 coverage. Also the NatGuard get REAL training, vs showing up, and doing vehicle maintainance, and about nothing else. The guard ARE our bread/butter homeland defence, so lets get'm prepared CORRECTLY.

Also, as you have mentioned, the engineers need things to do also, like laying fence/wall's and other nice surprises for any fence jumpers.

Husker, the only thing I can figure is the KISS system is to hard for those in DC to understand.
