    Rally decries illegal immigration

    BY ELIZABETH AHLIN

    WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

About 90 people rallied Saturday in Omaha to protest what they called an "invasion" of undocumented workers into the United States.

Protesters outside the Mexican Consulate on Saturday called for enforcement of current immigration laws.

The protesters flanked Dodge Street in front of the Mexican Consulate, waving American flags and signs reading "Illegals go home" and "Build the fence today."

The daylong rally was organized in response to recent national protests urging Congress to provide a way for certain illegal immigrants to gain legal status.

"The only fair thing is just to follow the law," said Tim Narducci, one of the rally's organizers.

Many of the protesters were angry about President Bush's recent statements calling for a guest worker program and supporting the eventual citizenship of undocumented workers.

"These people are illegal. They're breaking the law," said Carl Fender of Omaha. "Why are we going to give them amnesty?"

Fender, who voted for Bush, said the president is out of touch with the people on this issue.

Lorrie Palmer came out of her nearby home to confront the protesters.

"These people just want to work," she said of illegal immigrants. "They want to be able to educate their children. They want to feed their children. They can't do that in Mexico."

Palmer returned to her home and came back draped in an American flag and holding a sign that read, "Give them a chance at the American dream."

"I figure if you guys can protest, so can I," Palmer said as she took her place on Dodge Street.

Mexican Consul Jose Cuevas monitored the rally from inside the consulate.

The protesters were largely peaceful, but Cuevas said he was troubled by some who stood on the Mexican flag.

In the morning, when the maximum number of folks were present, I saw at least 150 people protesting.

On one of last night's TV news reports the ugly-as-sin consul declared that immigrants are VITAL to the American economy.

The on-line story does not contain all that is in the printed story. Mention is made of eggs being tossed at protestors by passing cars and some obsne gestures.

Well, some of the gestures, some of the shouted obscenities were just kids who do that stuff for the thrill or fun of it. Nothing to get upset about really....just kid stuff. What surprised me was the large percentage of Hispanics driving by...none of which appeared to be anything that was planned since the Hispanic-carrying cars came by singly in dribbles ans drabs or whatever the heck that term to describe intermittency is.

Anyway, many of the Hispanics flipped us off. Women, kids, men, didn't matter. Many showed their displeasure at our displeasure.

Sure appears to be a culture war to me.

Too bad we can't gather 15-million Americans and march into Mexico and do as their people do here. Wait... better not. I elieve you folks know of the severe dangers that would pose.

The attitudes conveyed by the invaders. It dismays me. The demanding, the flouting of our way of life, our laws, our culture. We are expected to roll over and expose our throats to the wolves.

Later in the day (I stuck it out for the full 8-hours of the protest) some Hispanics arrived in a small group. I saw one sign saying "This IS our home." Presumably one who is here legally.

Three police surrounded them, ensuring they remained peaceful. To show the mentality of the invaders and their supporters, those Hispanics brought several pit bulls with them. They were on leashes but they can still be used as a weapon.

People, we ARE at war!!!!! If Omaha can have so many apparent illegals prancing around how long will it be until the USA is a culturally Hispanic nation and resembles Mexico more that the USA of the past? Why do so many AMericans see it as unbecoming to want to protect OUR culture, our way of life. Is their that much "white guilt" that we will be overrun by what to me is an inferior culture?

The gauntlet has been thrwon down yet I see too few Americans bearing the standard our ancestors took into battle to save our way of life.

I fear, as I have declared before, that we are doomed. Sold out by an elite class and powerful special interests and a brainwashed mass of lazy apathetic cowardly Americans.

Re: Omaha Rally Decries Illegal Immigration

What I want to know is how come NO ONE ever asks people who say this (quote below) "WHY?" WHY can't they do that in Mexico? And why is that OUR need to remedy?

"ALL THE SENATORS ARE SCARED OF LOOSING THIER HIGH PAYING JOBS."

I hate sounding akin to a broken record but my opinion, I believe, must be repeated.

A politician at high levels does not have to fear being voted out!!!!

Corporate America or one of the wealthy special interest groups provides excellent jobs to ex-politicians.

Then there is the speaking circuit. Sums of money you and I will never obtain even in a lifetime of working is paid by groups and corporations to ex-politicians who make the rounds giving their minutes-long speeches. The record holder (as far as I know) was ex-president Ronald Reagen who received 2-million dollars for a 15 minute speech.

Don't worry, folks. The loathful politician you oust from office is guarenteed to live a lifestyle far beyong what you will likely ever obtain.

The elite class takes care of its own.

I'll bet you 10 to 1 that Lorrie Palmer is on public assistance or is profiting from illegal immigrants.

I've said this many times and I will say it again. Just because you don't see every action of those opposed to this invasion doesn't mean they are inactive.
