USBP Weekly Blotter: June 18 – June 24

(06/24/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 7,970 pounds of marijuana valued at $6,651,072 and 27 pounds of Ecstasy valued at $270,000. Agents arrested 12 criminal aliens and 11 gang members. There were 12 rocking incidents.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Barrio Azteca gang. Records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States on several occasions.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents detained four United States Citizens (USC) and seized a stolen vehicle near Rio Grande City, Texas. Agents discovered 681 buttons of Peyote in the vehicle’s trunk. The case was referred to local law enforcement officials.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,048 pounds of marijuana valued at $839,040 near New Miguel, Arizona. While conducting surveillance, an agent observed a group of ten suspected illegal aliens. The subjects absconded, but responding agents discovered 42 bundles of marijuana in the area.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,105 pounds of marijuana valued at $884,000, a 2001 GMC pickup truck, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Whetstone, Arizona. The subject presented himself and his vehicle for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the rear of the truck. A subsequent search revealed the hidden marijuana.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang with a criminal history. Records checks further revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Eagle Pass, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject is a member of the Sureno-13 gang with a criminal history. Records checks further revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject is a member of the Partido Revolucionario Mexicano prison gang and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,116 pounds of marijuana valued at $892,800 near Pharr, Texas. Agents located an abandoned vehicle and discovered the marijuana inside. Agents were not able to locate the driver.

Swanton Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 27 pounds of Ecstasy valued at $270,000, 53 pounds of marijuana valued at $42,400, a 2000 Ford, and arrested a national of Canada near Ellenburg, New York. When agents performed a vehicle stop, they detected the odor of marijuana. A Border Patrol canine then alerted to the vehicle. A search revealed the narcotics inside the trunk.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual battery and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse. Records checks further revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents reported that unidentified subjects, attempting to smuggle three horses into the United States, assaulted agents with rocks near Sasabe, Arizona. The subjects absconded back into Mexico and abandoned one of the horses.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Uvalde, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Paisas Gang and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Indio, California. Records checks revealed the subject was convicted of rape by force in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 64 pounds of marijuana valued at $51,200, a 2009 Dodge Charger, and arrested a USC near Sierra Blanca, Texas. The subject presented himself and his vehicle for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. The subject was directed to a secondary inspection area, but he refused and fled the checkpoint. Agents initiated a pursuit and the subject eventually yielded to agents.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 953 pounds of marijuana valued at $762,720, a 1999 tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Egypt at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection and a Z Backscatter X-ray unit detected anomalies in the trailer. A subsequent search revealed the hidden marijuana.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual conduct with a minor and felony child abuse in the State of Arizona. He had also been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Falfurrias, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a 2005 Toyota and arrested two nationals of El Salvador, near Sarita, Texas, for smuggling illegal aliens. During processing, one of the subjects was identified as a Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang member.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,841 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,473,120, a 1998 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search revealed the marijuana hidden within a load of onions.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Quijotoa, Arizona. Records check revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual battery of a minor in the State of Florida, and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including a felony conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child. Records checks further revealed the subject had been previously deported from the United States.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Why, Arizona. The subject claimed to have been assaulted and robbed by bandits in the desert. The case was referred to local law enforcement authorities.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Riverside, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents detained a national of Mexico after he assaulted an agent near Sebastian, Texas. The subject became combative after the agent attempted to conduct an immigration inspection. The subject scratched and bit the agent before being subdued by the agent and taken into custody.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,287 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,029,600 after observing twenty individuals carrying backpacks illegally enter the United States near La Rosita, Texas. As the agents approached the subjects, they dropped their backpacks and absconded into Mexico. A search of the backpacks revealed 80 packages of marijuana.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Imperial Beach, California. The subject was driving a Ford F-250 truck north from the international border when he intentionally swerved and struck an agent with his vehicle. The subject drove off in an attempt to abscond, struck a tree, and was subsequently arrested by agents.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 430 pounds of marijuana valued at $344,192, 18 grams of methamphetamine valued at $9,528, a twenty-gauge shotgun, two twelve-gauge shotguns, an AK-47 rifle, and arrested seven illegal aliens near Ajo, Arizona.
