Deported man returns to Utah, gets arrested in child rape case

OREM -- According to an Orem woman, Angel Adrian Jauregui-Lopez began sexually abusing her when she was 5 years old and living in Mexico. Later, when the woman was 10, both she and Jauregui-Lopez moved to Orem. Despite the move, the abuse continued, she told police.

An arrest report states that Jauregui-Lopez, 23, continued raping and abusing the woman until she got older and could physically and verbally resist him. Earlier this year, the report adds, Jauregui-Lopez was deported back to Mexico, and the woman "felt safe."

However, Jauregui-Lopez reportedly didn't stay in Mexico. Instead, the report states, he "took on a new identity" and began calling himself Omar Garcia. Using that new name, he returned to Utah, where police arrested him on Wednesday. The report states that officers found him at his home in Provo. They also reportedly discovered fraudulent identification documents, including a Social Security card.

Jauregui-Lopez denied the allegations, according to the report. He said that his accuser may have been sexually abused by her grandfather, who lives in Mexico.

Jauregui-Lopez was booked into jail on one count of rape of a child, a first-degree felony, and one count of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony. Court records do not indicate why he would have been deported earlier this year, as stated in the arrest report. However, a 23-year-old man listed as Angel A. Jauregui was arrested in 2006 and charged with eight misdemeanors related to theft and burglary. That man bailed out of jail in early 2007 and subsequently was deported. The documents state that by Thursday, that man also had returned to the United States and was in police custody.
