Man, 21, arrested in E. Baltimore stabbing death

A 21-year-old man who police say is in the country illegally was arrested yesterday and charged in the stabbing death of a man last month in East Baltimore.

Eddy M. Castillo-Diaz, a native of Honduras who lists an address in the 100 block of N. Ellwood Ave., is charged with first-degree murder, assault and a weapon charge.

Police say he stabbed Jose Escobar-Pena in the 3500 block of Eastern Ave. on Feb. 22 just after 2 a.m. Escobar-Pena was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital from a stab wound to the abdomen.

According to charging documents, Castillo-Diaz was developed as a suspect after interviews with witnesses. Police learned he was making arrangements to return to Honduras.
