Alleged fight between roommates leads to arrest of illegal immigrant

MIDDLETOWN — An altercation on Oak Street led to the arrest of an illegal immigrant Sunday.

A man with numerous injuries to his arms and face came to Middletown Police headquarters to make an assault complaint against his roommate Miguel Saul Coronel.

The victim told police that Coronel, 43, assaulted him and when he threatened to call police the accused reportedly broke the victim’s cell phone. A witness to the altercation told police that he saw Coronel punch the victim.

An investigation revealed that Coronel is in the country illegally, according to the arrest report. He was held on $10,000 pending an appearance Monday in Middletown Superior Court.

During his arraignment Judge Susan Handy reduced Coronel’s bond to a promise to appear back in court on Nov. 19 and put a protective order in place between Coronel and the victim.

Immigration officials are investigation the matter, according to court officials.
