Even more reason for people to protest amnesty. They say there are alot of farming positions but for some reason I just don't think they are for American citizens or legal residents.

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ―

Florida's unemployment rate continued to head in the wrong direction in December, reaching a level not seen since the mid-1970's.

According to the Agency for Workforce Innovation, Florida's unemployment rate in December hit 11.8 percent. That's three-tenths of a point higher than in November and up 4.2 percentage points from December of 2008.

In South Florida there was a mixed bag of results. For Miami-Dade County, the picture is getting increasingly worse with each month. In December, the unemployment rate in Miami-Dade County stood at 11.3 percent. That rate is nearly a full percentage point higher than the November unemployment rate for the county and 4.3 percentage points higher than in December of 2008.

The 11.3 percent unemployment rate in Miami-Dade County translates to roughly 139,000 workers being out of a job. For comparison sake, the number of workers unemployed in December 2008 was 85,367.

The Beacon Council said in a statement issued shortly after the unemployment number were released that: "While Miami-Dade County and the res of the nation have seen signs that the economy is beginning to recover from the recession, we still project high levels of unemployment throughout 2010 since unemployment is considered a lagging indicator."

Broward County can look at the unemployment rate for December with a small amount of relief. The county's unemployment rate stood at 10 percent which was down two-tenths of a percentage point from November.

The numbers translate to roughly 99,480 workers out of a job in Broward County in December. Still, it's still a dramatically higher number than in December of 2008 when the unemployment rate in Broward County stood at 6.8 percent.

Monroe County had one of the lowest unemployment rates in the area in December at roughly 7.2 percent. That's 2 percentage points higher than in the same month in 2008. Palm Beach County saw its unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of a percentage point in December 2009, but was still at 11.5 percent.

Overall in the state of Florida, the 11.8 percent unemployment rate means 1,087,000 Floridian workers are out of a job. Industries in the state that continue to hemorrhage jobs are: construction; trade, transportation and utilities; professional and business services.

Those three areas alone accounted for roughly two-thirds of the job losses in the state. The only industry that has shown growth in the state of Florida is the health care industry.

The Agency for Workforce Innovation exclusively ran some numbers for CBS4's Al Sunshine and found there are some job positions that have thousands of openings. Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting had more than 6800 job openings, but most of the jobs were for "farm workers."

Other areas that had thousands of positions open included: adminstrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services; Transportation and Warehousing; Information; and "Other services except Public Administration."
