San Diego — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers this weekend apprehended several fugitives with outstanding warrants including a fugitive who tried to flee from officers.

CBP stopped nine persons with warrants for their arrest for various charges including burglary and sex offenses.

During early morning on February 27 a 60-year-old male U.S. citizen and resident of Chula Vista approached a CBP officer at the Otay Mesa port of entry driving his 1991 Acura. After checking the driver’s documents, the officer discovered a warrant for the driver’s arrest, at which point the driver fled from officers, driving northbound on Highway 905.

CBP officers from the port and nearby U.S. Border Patrol agents gave pursuit, and apprehended the man. Officers confirmed the man’s identity with fingerprint identification, and confirmed that he had a no-bail, felony warrant for his arrest, issued by the California Department of Corrections for a parole violation.

CBP seized the vehicle. The fugitive is currently being held at the San Diego County Jail.

Also this weekend CBP officers at the six ports of entry along the California/Mexico border stopped 786 pounds of marijuana, 33 pounds of heroin, 131 pounds of methamphetamine and 36 pounds of cocaine, worth an estimated $2.4 million, and thwarted 270 illegal immigration attempts.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
