Border Patrol Seizes 7 Tons of Pot in 2 Days

TUCSON - Over a period of 48 hours, Border Patrol agents in southern Arizona seized more than 7 tons of marijuana, valued at nearly $6.5 million.

Tuesday, agents from the Tucson sector took in 9,700 pounds.

On Wednesday, agents in Casa Grande conducted a vehicle stop and found 84 bundles of marijuana, weighing 510.6 pounds.

In another incident, agents used Mobile Surveillance System technology to detect a load of marijuana that had been abandoned in the desert. They located 1,096 pounds of marijuana.

In the same day, agents at the Sonoita station found 78 bundles weighing 1,753 pounds in an abandoned vehicle.

Later, Sonoita agents located 14 bundles of marijuana concealed in the brush, weighing 744 pounds.

Thursday morning, agents from the Ajo station used Remote Video Surveillance System technology to detect a group of suspected illegal immigrants. They apprehended 9 suspects carrying 14 bundles of marijuana, weighing 576 pounds.

The seized marijuana has an estimated value of $6,471,450.
