Suffolk police made an arrest in the June murder of Tomas Estevez, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic who was found outside a North Bay Shore apartment slumped behind the steering wheel of his van with three bullet wounds. Police said he was shot outside the vehicle.

Det. Sgt. Edward Fandrey of Suffolk's Homicide Squad said they believe Arcadio Gonzalez, 34, lured Estevez, 32, to his Pine Acres Boulevard home, shot him, and then stole an undetermined amount of cocaine that Estevez had on him.

Shortly thereafter, Fandrey said Gonzalez fled for York, Penn. Police learned he would be returning to Brentwood on Saturday and arrested him shortly after he arrived.

Fandrey said Gonzalez had a loaded handgun on him and confessed to the killing. He was arraigned yesterday at First District Court, Central Islip, on charges of second-degree murder. His attorney, Craig McElwee, could not be reached.
