The regular legislative session ended this morning with more than 230 bills being sent to the governor's desk, including some very controversial measures.

One of the more controversial bills has to do with undocumented students and financial aid for school. Sen. Gil Cedillo authored the Dream Act bill which would allow undocumented students to apply for all state financial aid available except Cal Grant's A and B programs.

Cedillo, Democrat from Los Angeles, says the Dream Act will not take away scholarships from legal students but critics had questioned that.

"We've got working poor in California," said Assemblyman Mike Villanes, R-Clovis. "We've got middle class in California who can't afford to send their kids to college and because they make [a certain income] they get no help, so they don't grants. They may get loans, but that's a real problem."

"No student here would be bumped as a result of this new program," Cedillo said. "What we are doing is that that money is being sent back to the state. That money should be invested in quality education for every Californian."

Late last month, students went door to door at the State Capitol to drum up support for the Dream Act. It garnered enough support to pass and is now headed to the governor's desk.

There seems to be a lack of common sense in California. No wonder the state is deep debt. To top that off, the SF Mayor is chomping at the bit to increase services to illegals.
