On Thursday, Damion March, a Jamaican national, was arrested in Phoenix after Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies seized $650 pounds of marijuana and more than $380,000 in cash.

March has been charged with possession of marijuana for sale, marijuana for transport, and two counts of forgery. He is currently being held in the Maricopa County Jail on an immigration detainer.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio told reporters: “Even though Jamaica is only 600 miles from the Florida coast, these criminals find it easier to bring drugs in from the Mexican border and ship it 2,100 miles across the United States. Our investigations display a growing trend of drug traffickers using illegal aliens from Jamaica to transport drugs through Arizona, a major shipping point for their criminal operations.â€
