GA: Immigration rally draws estimated crowd of 1,000

Immigration rally draws estimated crowd of 1,000

    Associated Press - June 19, 2007 6:14 AM ET

DORAVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A rally to support passage of immigration reform in Congress drew an estimated 1,000 illegal immigrants to the Plaza Fiesta in Doraville.

Organizers had hoped up to 10,000 people would attend the rally last night. They say rumors that immigration officials were in the area kept the crowd smaller.

Former Mexican Consul General Teodoro Maus led the candlelight vigil and petition drive. He says lawmakers in Washington, DC, need to be enlightened on how vital it is to approve a reform package that will take into account people and NOT numbers. Maus says amnesty is morally right because illegal immigrants have earned through hard work, honesty and commitment to the United States.

The reform bill, which has the backing of President Bush, would tighten border security, create a temporary guest worker program and initiate a process for millions of undocumented workers already in the US to become legal residents.

The US Senate could resume debate on the legislation later this week. A final vote is expected by July Fourth. (WSB Radio)

Yeah right, nice cover for an obvious lack of enthusiasm.

    Illegal rally

I didn't go to the illegal's little rally. I didn't know that it was going on until this morning. I am willing to bet that the "1000" demonstrators mentioned was more like 100. I have been to several rallies against the immigration bill over the last 2 weeks.

The counter rally sponsored by local latino radio stations have attracted less than 20 demonstrators. So, I am curious about the real numbers.

Hey ICE, get off your butts and get over there to arrest them! There are 1,000 to round up.

Lunarminer, you've probably already seen other greatly exaggerated numbers by the MSM before. Somehow they love to brag up the illegals numbers, and brag down the real American numbers in these protests.
I don't believe the MSM when they report numbers like this because it seems almost every time they do, somebody who was actually there puts up facts stating the numbers were far less than reported.

Just another way our corrupt government is using the old propaganda tool to fool the weak minded.
