The following information was released by the Colorado Senate:

Today the Democrat-controlled Senate State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee killed three resolutions designed to strengthen laws dealing with illegal immigration.

SCR 11-002 requiring proof of citizenship to vote, SCR 11-003 requiring proof of citizenship for elected officials and SCR 11-004 requiring employers to use E-verify all died on a party-line vote.

Senate sponsor Kent Lambert pointed out Democrats' double standard on this issue by saying, "Democrats claim we need to send a message to Washington to deal with illegal immigration, but their solution is to give in-state tuition to 'illegal' aliens. They cannot even agree that voters and elected officials should provide proof of citizenship."

"Senate Democrats continue to thwart the will of the U.S. people by refusing to stem the tide of illegal immigration while simultaneously rewarding illegal behavior," said Lambert.

"With 9.2 percent unemployment in Colorado, when will Democrats understand they are killing jobs for American citizens and legal foreign workers?"

In fact, this morning Senate Democrats passed SB 243 which repeals the minimum $50,000 civil penalty for forging, counterfeiting, altering, or falsifying employment verification documents.

"By casting these votes, Democrats have said loud and clear they only want to make it easier for illegal immigrants to live and work in Colorado and could care less about their legal U.S. citizens," concluded Lambert.
