Immigration Bill Dead, But Not DREAM ACT

Immigration Bill Dead, But Not DREAM ACT

    by Charles Dervarics

Despite defeat of the Senate’s immigration bill last week, Latino and other education leaders say they still will press for action this year on a bill to help illegal immigrant students gain legal status as well as access to in-state college tuition rates.

Advocacy groups say they have not abandoned efforts to pass the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, which was part of the comprehensive Senate bill that lost a crucial vote last week. They say the DREAM Act is less controversial than other elements of that bill and they’ve always had a contingency plan to push the idea independent of other proposals.

“It was one of the most modest provisions of the comprehensive immigration bill,â€

Our congress is determined to allow as many illegals to get citizenship as possible regardless of what americans want. We need to vote all of them out and make sure that they know the reason is that we don't want illegals to have a path to citizenship. Only legals are welcome.

Under the DREAM Act, illegal immigrant students could seek legal status if they have a high school diploma or the equivalent and have lived in the U.S. for five consecutive years. These students could obtain a temporary permit and, later, permanent residency if they complete at least two years in college or the military.
Amnesty is amnesty, no matter what color paint you brush it with! Any illegal immigrant that is put on a path to citizenship while living illegally in the United States is the recipient of amensty.

Absolutely true, we want enforcement, NOT amnesty and further giveaways to illegals! If/when the "Dream (i.e. nightmare for middle class citizens) Act resurfaces, we have to go at this as hard as we did the Bush/Kennedy amnesty bill! Let's get ready.

I can just guess what happens if a bunch of these illegals are allowed free college educations and a bunch of them become lawyers. Can you imagine the havoc they would wreck upon American courts in their pursuit of amnesty for the 30 to 50 illegals already here. They would dwarf anything the ACLU has done thus far. Let's not give them the rope with which they wish to hang us.

An equal concern is their apparent ability to register to vote. When they can concentrate their numbers in a single district and affect the outcome of OUR elections, we are in trouble.
