SOUTHEAST - The Town Board will discuss the "impact of illegal immigration" on the community at its work session tonight.

Councilman Dwight Yee said they will update residents on what measures the Town Board has taken to curb illegal immigration to date, including offering up its code enforcement personnel to assist the village of Brewster with inspections, as well as sharing information.

Yee said the town has also implemented a law that holds contractors accountable for hiring legal workers.

"It's not our usual campaign rhetoric," Yee said. "We've put things in place and with the warm summer months ahead we want the community to know that we will be following up on these enforcement issues."

Yee said the two candidates now running for Town Board, Matthew Neuringer and Joseph DePaola, are addressing illegal immigration in their campaign.

Neuringer, 21, ran unsuccessfully for Town Board almost two years ago on the Save Our Southeast line, along with Yee and Supervisor Michael Rights. SOS then focused heavily on illegal immigration and crime in Brewster.

The Town Board work session starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Southeast municipal building, 1360 Route 22.
