A Denison woman faced a federal judge in McAllen after being arrested for trying to smuggle two illegal immigrant children into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Madeline de los Angeles-Colondres on Saturday.
The 32-year-old Denison woman drove up to the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge with another woman, a 15-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl.
De los Angeles-Colondres allegedly claimed the two girls were American citizens and showed two birth certificates as proof.
Customs officers learned that the two girls were actually illegal immigrants from Quintana Roo, Mexico.
De los Angeles-Colondres was arrested in immigrant smuggling charges while the two girls were returned to Mexican authorities.
