Illegal immigrant from Honduras charged in Atlantic City mail carrier assault

4:30 p.m. Update - ATLANTIC CITY - U. S. Postal Inspectors have arrested Doni Maldonado for the June 15, 2007 assault and robbery of an Atlantic City letter carrier.
Maldonado, an illegal alien from Honduras who resided in Atlantic City was charged with the assault of a letter carrier.

Investigators interviewed Maldonado on April 7, 2008, at which time he admitted to his involvement in the assault and robbery of the letter carrier during which the carrier was struck in the head with a brick.

The case has been accepted for federal prosecution in the District of New Jersey. Maldonado made an initial appearance on April 21, 2008, before federal magistrate judge Joel Schneider and is being held in federal custody.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ronald Chillemi. Maldondao faces up to 25 years in prison.
