Suspected drug smugglers clash with authorities after driving vehicle into the Rio Grande.
Anzalduas Park - A chase that started in Palmview ended when the suspects drove an SUV into the Rio Grande River at Anzalduas Park.
The armed suspects stood on the Mexican side of the river, and threatened authorities.
At one point some of the men tried to swim back across the river and retrieve a load of drugs from inside, but were pushed back by border patrol.
After a short time, the men decided to cut their loses and leave.
Once authorities pulled the vehicle from the water they found nearly eighteen hundred pounds of marijuana inside.
The drugs have been handed over to the Drug Enforcement Agency, the case is still under investigation.

I hope they check the vehicle for fingerprints and compare them to those they have on record so, when caught, these guys get the full impact of the laws.
They should be charged with violating enviromental laws too--polluting the river with oil, gas, etc. and endangering waterlife.
Evading police officers is a criminal offense as well as interference with official acts. Why can't the suspects be shot with fast-acting Tranquilizer guns?

That would be a choice but then when criminal drowns in the river the BP agent would go to jail and our wonderful Pres. would say it is justified ..
