Police arrested Cesar Ramos of Capitola late Friday night, after a gang-motivated fight outside of the Capitola Mall in which he and another 20-year-old man were stabbed Friday afternoon.

Ramos, who originally told police his last name was Bracamontes, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing Cameron Diehl of Watsonville multiple times in the torso at 1:50 p.m. Friday, according to Capitola police detective Jason Grogan. Diehl was flown to an out-of-county trauma center Friday evening, and was listed as stable Saturday.

Detectives interviewed Diehl 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Valley Medical Center in San Jose.

Ramos apparently approached Diehl, who was in a vehicle near the Metro bus station, and started yelling gang slurs at him, according to Grogan. Diehl and his mother were running errands together in his green Dodge Durango. Diehl, who was behind the wheel, stopped the sport utility vehicle near the Metro bus station, jumped out and the fight turned physical, according to his mother.

"We can't determine if Cameron stated anything during the argument. No one heard anything," Grogan said. "The only statement we have so far is from Cameron."

During the interview, Diehl denied yelling any gang-related words, according to Grogan.

Police said the two men didn't know each other. They are still probing what prompted the fight.

"Diehl is just trying to get his life back together and not hang out with that element," Grogan said. "He said he just lost his temper and didn't make the best choice."
