One purpose of the Tuesday rally is to highlight how the current law splits families. Many protestors say deportations are increasing, so reform is needed to allow illegal immigrants to obtain legal status.
Since Barack Obama took office, he's been advocating immigration reform. But recently he's said his administration expects no action on legislation before 2010.
Immigrant in US, said, "I have been here for 7 years and the president promised to give us a reform so we could legally work in this country, and we want him to fulfill his promise."

The event was timed to the unveiling of an immigration bill by Representative Luis V. Gutierrez, Democrat of Illinois and chairman of the Immigration Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
With President Obama’s stated commitment to immigration reform, advocates for immigrants said they hoped to revive a debate that has been overshadowed by other priorities, like the economy and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. As deportations continue to rise, immigration reform is needed now, they said, to allow illegal immigrants to obtain legal status and to stop families from being torn apart.

The event was timed to the unveiling of an immigration bill by Representative Luis V. Gutierrez, Democrat of Illinois and chairman of the Immigration Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Contrary to popular belief that the only people concerned with immigration legislature are of Latino descent, African-born immigrants, Asian-born and Caribbean immgrants were among those who lined the streets in the protest in Washington DC, leading to the Capitol.

I'm sick to death of hearing about the families of illegal immigrants being torn apart. They did this to themselves. They knew when they came here what the risks were. They have no right to demand anything from our country. As for Luis Gutierrez, has he done ANYTHING as a Senator of Illinois for the legal citizens of Illinois or the U.S.? He has spent all of his time working for people who are not legal citizens here. Is there any way to force him to do the job he was elected to do and stop wasting taxpayer money? We can't wait until he's up for re-election to put a stop to his crap.
