Senators Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and David Vitter (R-La.) have introduced Senate versions of Rep. Heath Shuler's (D-N.C.) SAVE Act (Secure America with Verification Enforcement [H.R. 4088]). Sen. Pryor's bill is S. 2368 and Sen. Vitter's bill is S. 2366.

The two bills are substantively the same -- essentially both bills are identical, so the best thing would be to encourage your Senator to sign onto both. If they want to make a choice based on something other that the substance of the bill, that is their call, but NumbersUSA has endorsed both.

Send this fax asking your Senators to cosponsor BOTH S. 2368 and S. 2366, important bills that would immediately begin to reduce illegal immigration.

BACKGROUND:

Representative Heath Shuler (D-NC) introduced the Secure America with Verification and Enforcement Act (SAVE Act- H.R. 408 on November 6, with bi-partisan support.

NumbersUSA believes this immigration enforcement-only bill is the perfect vehicle to pass immigration legislation through the Democrat-controlled Congress that would actually improve the lives of most Americans.

Among the key provisions of the SAVE Act are measures that:

Require every employer to use the electronic verification system (E-Verify) on every employee;

Make provisions to catch illegal aliens who have committed identity theft; and

Require implementation of key border protection provisions.

Sunday night I sent a new fax ( of mine ) to all of OH's congressmen. This week I plan to call all of them again.

I also targeted congressman Charlie Wilson - D, OH.

Reviewed the list of his top twenty PAC contributers and sent several of them letters. In the letter I asked them to review the aspects of the SAVE ACT HR 4088 and if they approve it, lobby the congressman to co-sponsor it.

Sample letter -
I’ve been in the steel industry for over 25 years and worked in union and non-union shops. The men and women at Wheeling Pittsburgh, were the BEST workers I ever had the pleasure to work with, especially those at Benwood & Martins Ferry. I was at Benwood when it closed

Today, I believe the lack of enforcement, of our immigration laws, have resulted in lower wages and the loss of jobs for Americans. IMO, both political parties have been more interested in amnesty for illegal immigrants, than good jobs for Americans. Corporate America is addicted to a unlimited supply of low wage, illegal immigrants.

I believe our federal govt. lacks the will to secure our borders and ports. The biggest problem is not the illegal workers, but the lack of workplace enforcement. Any illegal or undocumented worker can easily purchase false documents for $150 – $200. Employers are not permitted to question these documents and fail to verify social security numbers with the federal govt. I believe all employers must be forced to verify all social security numbers.

Recently, the SAVE Act – H.R. 4088 was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. It already has 110 co-sponsors from both parties. In Ohio, The following congressmen/women are co-sponsors: Jean Schmidt – R, 2nd Dist., Zack Space - D, 18th Dist., & Tim Ryan – D, 17 Dist.

This bill forces employers to verify all social security numbers, using the govt’s. E-Verify program,

Many of his contributors are labor unions. I realize some unions want illegal aliens as member. However I sent a letter to the USW local in Martins Ferry, OH. I worked with them a number of years. I know these guys don't support illegals.

I believe this legislation would be "turning point" in our fight against illegal immigration.

If any fellow buckeyes can space some time, I could use some help.
