Chicago, 16 jun (EFE).- Chicago, June 16 (EFE) .- The lack of resources at the municipal and state threatened in Illinois public education and social programs for children, immigrants and working families.
For two weeks the start of the new fiscal year, July 1, both the mayor and the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and the state governor's dismissal of options for managing staff and the drastic reduction of their budgets.
In public education, which includes Chicago more than 400,000 students of whom 40 percent are Hispanic, will be removed immediately at least 500 jobs not related to work in classrooms.
However, the CEO of CPS, Ron Huberman, who has advanced the cuts will continue later with 500 teachers and teacher support.
Humberman, an educational administrator with no experience who took office a few months ago, said the cuts are due to budget deficits but also part of administrative reform that seeks to better results in the third district of the country in size after the Angeles and New York.
Public education in Chicago since 1995 depends on the municipality, where there are budget problems caused by low tax revenues and the general economic crisis in the country.
Daley announced 1500 redundancies after unions representing 80 percent of the city refused to discuss concessions to minimize the impact of the deficit of $ 300 million.
These include working 16 days without compensation before the end of the year, reducing the working week of vacation and sick days, plus the non-payment of holidays and increasing the contribution of employees in health insurance.
Although there were last-minute meetings with trade unions, the president of the Federation of Chicago, Dennis Gannon, said today that "although we accept what we require, the municipality does not guarantee job stability."
The layoffs will affect mostly the cleaning service and waste collection in the city.
Democratic Gov. Patrick Quinn today urged lawmakers to lift the recess and return to sit before the end of the month to resolve the shortage of 11,600 million in the budget.
"I think that the legislators must face the reality, because the people of Illinois need them," said Quinn.
The governor called for an increase in personal income tax to cover the shortfall.
The Legislature approved a budget that allows the government to continue functioning for several months, but will be in their plans to implement cuts in state spending by seven billion dollars.
This will lose funding for social services and programs that benefit immigrant families, as well as resources for the education of adults engaged in community organizations and schools.
Several state agencies sent letters to thousands of social service providers, which warn that subsidies be reduced or eliminated in the budget.
The budget of the Department of Human Services 2200 would lose millions of dollars, and funds from the Department of Children and Family Services would be reduced $ 460 million.
Without state funds, for example, the seven community colleges in Chicago from May to suspend the free classes of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Equivalency Diploma of Secondary Education (GED).
Also endangered Fund Resources for Immigrant Families, which provides health services to 80,000 people per year and the New Americans Initiative to help legal immigrants become citizens and register to vote. EFE EFE

If the programs only served immigrants there would be much less of a problem it is the stressed resources caused by also serving illegal aliens that drags them into the red.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Agreed, and I'm told that is a concern in Illinois.

They fail to mention that services are also being cut to American citizens residing in Illinois, including the handicapped and elderly. All this in order to be a sanctuary state. I can't wait to retire and move away.
