PHOENIX (AP) — A man has been convicted of trying to smuggle eight illegal immigrants into Arizona.

Federal prosecutors said Friday that 39-year-old Guadalupe Garcia-Corral was found guilty Friday. He faces a prison term of almost four years when he's sentenced Dec. 8.

Authorities say Garcia-Corral was arrested on March 21 while driving the illegal immigrants to Flagstaff.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office detectives were conducting surveillance for load vehicles involved human smuggling on Interstate 17 south of Anthem when they stopped a van driven by Garcia-Corral. Authorities say he was transporting the eight people for $120 apiece.

Garcia-Corral was indicted by a county grand jury on March 29 on a felony count of engaging in human smuggling for profit.
