Barack Obama meets with Mexican President Calderon
WASHINGTON - Days before taking office, President-elect Barack Obama met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, a pre-inauguration tradition that comes as Mexico's drug violence escalates and spills into the United States.
Obama transition officials say that Monday's session, held at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, is intended to underscore the importance of the relationship between Mexico and the U.S.
Mexico's drug war has increasingly defined that relationship. U.S-Mexico ties remain strong, but immigration and trade concerns loom along with security matters.
Spiraling violence
Drug-related homicides doubled in Mexico last year, led by rising murder rates in cities across the border from the U.S. The Justice Department last month called Mexican cartels the biggest organized crime threat to the United States.
Calderon, whom U.S. officials have praised for deploying troops to fight cartels and capturing top drug kingpins, already won a multimillion-dollar anti-drug aid package from Washington last year. Obama supports that plan, known as the Merida Initiative, and promises to take up another cause that Calderon champions: a stop to smuggling guns from the U.S. to Mexico.
On other matters, Calderon's office said Sunday in a statement that he will press for "better conditions for Mexicans in the United States, based on respect for their rights," and may express concerns over stepped-up migrant raids. He may also push for expanded guest-worker programs.

They have no rights to any conditions in America as they are here illegally and I could care less what he thinks of the immigration raids, he does not want them back because they are sending our money to Mexico and we have to foot the bill for Medical, Education and all of the rest. I suppose Calderon thinks all of his "people" in the US are simply little angels...and not involved in various rip-off activities, thuggish crimes, fraud, gangsterism. Somebody should tell him that our economic crisis owes a lot to his "people."

I have been beating up on the Obama team for a long time now about the illegals, but from one of his speeches, he began to back off from instantly bringing about the promises he made on the campaign trail because of the economy. On the campaign trail, no candidate has any idea of what is really going on. He as president-elect is finally getting National Intelligence Estimates, and were I him, I would probably out-cuss any professional cussers, finding out what American people do not know. Not onlythe NIE, but having his gang start examining domestic economy, the rosy aura of whatever the GWB folks have been telling us has been false.

I just hope that Obama notices how many millions of Americans are out of work and chooses to be loyal to them instead of a foreign nation and a bunch of illegals.
