Company Recovers After Immigration Raid
A recent immigration raid in Stillmore, Emanuel County, has taken a toll on the small town and one of its main employers.
WTOC was there earlier this month when some of the workers from the Crider Poultry Packing Plant were taken into custody. In all, about 120 workers were arrested, and hundreds more fled before they could be caught.
The plant lost almost seventy percent of its workers.
Since the arrests by immigration and customs enforcement, Crider has raised wages and has been forced to hire locally.
Dave Purtle, with Crider Poultry, says the company certainly doesn't want to be back in the situation again where there is the possibility of losing so many employees.
Agents have been back at the plant since the arrests. They are training the company to spot fake documents.
