LEAGUE CITY (TEXAS) - The League City Police Department will start cracking down on congregations of day laborers who are trespassing at convenience stores, littering and obstructing traffic by soliciting work from passing motorists, Police Chief Michael Jez announced Wednesday.

"This is a shift in philosophy on behalf of the police department," Jez said, alluding to the department's history of allowing groups of day laborers to congregate daily in front of the police station on West Walker Street near cty hall. "Historically, the police department has taken a - I don't want to say 'hands-off approach' - but a fairly tolerant position."
