Tucson Chief Revises Illegal Alien Policy

Tucson chief revises illegal immigrant policy

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Tucson's police chief is revising his department's policy on dealing with illegal immigrants officers encounter.

Sgt. Fabian Pacheco says Chief Kermit Miller's new policy is designed to protect victims and witnesses while giving officers solid direction about when to call federal immigration agents.

Victims, witnesses and people stopped for minor driving offenses will never be asked about their immigration status. Pacheco says the old policy allowed that and some victims ended up being deported.

Suspects in minor criminal cases who receive citations will be held briefly and immigration agents called. They'll be released if federal agents don't arrive in about 20 minutes.

Those arrested for serious crimes will always be questioned about their status.

20 minutes????? You can't even drive across town in that amount of time.

This firming of the policy is trying to tiptoe through the hogsty without stepping in mud or other things.
Isn't there any way to clone Sheriff Joe Arpaio for every jurisdiction in the US law enforcement?

I misread this article. I thought it was Pacheo who was against following the old policy. But its Chief Miller and he ought to be replaced.

My exact thought. These sounds premeditated too.

This is that lame old excuse for police not doing their jobs. I think they're still waiting for those protected witnesses to come forth and solve their cases. LA uses that stupid excuse and we're expected to believe it.

Chief Miller needs to be replaced..

Driving with out a licence, without insurance, stolen tags on ones car because they don't want to pay for them are not minor offences....

I guess we could send a message by not renewing our licenses or car insurance since it is so minor.

What makes me mad is the way they are just ignoring the fact that these illegals are breaking the laws just being here....if this is not amnesty I don't know what is!
