Thread: Graham (La RAZA honoree) says Sotomayor must apologize

THis is really, really rich...doesn't everyone remember that Sen. Lindsey Graham, an ardent supporter of the twice failed Senate Amnesty bills was the keynote speaker at a La RAZA Conference whereby he actually said that
"all the bigots and racists need to shut-up" when referring to those Americans who opposed illegal immigration and the La RAZA backed Amnesty bills of 2006 and 2007?

The Video of Graham's speech is on YouTube. ...and now he's saying that he's offended by La RAZA board member, Sotomayor's "latina" comment ....
Go figure. What goes around, comes around Sen. Graham. You pandered to the wrong crowd at La RAZA and you aren't one of the "them". They were your friend when you were backing amnesty...but clearly Sotomayor doesn't think you are here equal in terms of legal decisions as you are a white male, Senator. Now see how that feels Sen. Graham?

A prominent Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee called on Judge Sonia Sotomayor to apologize for saying years ago that she would hope a "wise Latina woman" often would reach a better conclusion than a white man.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told "FOX News Sunday" he wasn't buying President Obama's attempt to walk back his Supreme Court nominee's controversial statement from 2001. Obama said Friday that given the chance Sotomayor would have "restated" that comment, and that she was merely trying to express how her experiences give her perspective on others' hardships.

"She didn't say that at all," Graham countered Sunday, suggesting Sotomayor's statement raises questions about her objectivity.

"What she said is that based on her life experiences is that she thought a Latina woman, somebody with her background, would be a better judge than a guy like me -- a white guy from South Carolina," Graham said. "It is troubling, and it's inappropriate and I hope she'll apologize."

With Sotomayor's confirmation set to dominate the summer months, Graham said the nominee will have to "prove" that she could give somebody like him a "fair shake" in court. He said her controversial statement suggests she feels her life experiences give her a "superiority" over others.

"I don't want that kind of person being a judge in my case," he said. But he dismissed claims from conservatives like talk show host Rush Limbaugh and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich that Sotomayor is a "racist."

"I don't think she's a racist," Graham said.

Sen. Arlen Specter, the Pennsylvania senator who recently switched his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat and also sits on the Judiciary Committee, defended Sotomayor's objectivity.

"She has an extraordinary record and I believe that it's fair to ask her about the question, but she has a long solid record to show that she's fair and not biased," he said on "FOX News Sunday."

Sotomayor, who sits on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, would be the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice if confirmed.

He's an idiot. He spoke at La Raza couple of years ago and now he wants to put Sotomayor through extensive hearings? This is why the Republican party is in trouble. They stand for nothing. They think that by catering to illegals they'll get the hispanic vote. Why then if Regan gave them amnesty,Bush almost gave them amnesty,President Bush had the most diverse cabinet including Attorney General Gonzalez, the Mexicans still vote Democrat??????!!!! Has nothing to do with sucking up to them. They want the freebies that the Dems provide. Thats all there is to it.

Exactly. Also Juan McCain was FOR amnesty and has been one of their biggest supporters for years, and he LOST! If Republicans think pandering to Hispanics is the answer, they will not gain any voters and instead will lose ALL VOTERS!!

Oh yeah how could I forget Juan McAmnesty!!! Tee hee! So the GOP finds itself in a bind. They've done everything for the hispanics that they could. Bush had more Blacks in his cabinet also and he nor the GOP received no credit at all for that. The had better wake up because if they do lose those of us level headed thinkers than they will for sure by a ghost party.
